What is billed as the largest Steampunk festival in Europe is set to return to Lincoln this August bank holiday weekend.
The Asylum VII – a retro-futuristic extravaganza – is to be held from Friday 28th August to Monday 31st and is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the city from all across Europe and beyond. Additional direct trains from London to Lincoln have also been planned.
Featuring a fusion of arts, literature, music, fashion and fun events, the event has been organised through a partnership between the Victorian Steampunk Society and Lincoln BIG.
John Naylor, the Chairman of the Victorian Steampunk Society said “We are expecting at least 2,000 people to attend on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the weekend. Steampunks are coming to Lincoln from most of the European countries, but also from America, Canada and New Zealand.”
“People are intrigued by the Steampunk genre. They want to come and take a look and, before they know it, they find they have got involved” he added.
Events and Promotions Manager, Michael Armstrong, added: “This year will be centred on a variety of uphill venues, including Lincoln Castle, Castle Hill, The Assembly Rooms, Bailgate MEthodist Church Hall, the Westgate Academy and Bishop Grosseteste University.”
Attendees are likely to be coming along to the festival in a variety of different costumes in the traditional neo-victorian science-fiction steampunk style. Though people who wish to check out the event who might not have a pair of fantastic goggles, bustle skirt or pocket watch to hand can attend in their general clothing.
