This weeks siren Simply Jazz show was tracks by Tony Bennet, Cara Emerald, and an interview with Andy Baker. Andy leads a brand new big band which has just been launched in Chicago with Ken Partyka they have assembled the city’s finest performers, writers and arrangers to form a world-class band that is uniquely Chicago.
Andy was Born and raised in London, and became a trombonist. He was performing professionally at the age of 14 and had appeared on recordings and TV shows by 18. He toured extensively, performing at major jazz festivals and clubs across the world before relocating to Chicago in 2001. Quickly establishing a reputation as one of the most versatile musicians in town, And performed and recorded with many of Chicago’s finest jazz and contemporary music ensembles.
The musical director of the New standard Jazz Orchestra, a member of Fulcrum Point, and his own sextet. Andy’s recorded compositions and arrangements include works for brass ensembles, jazz orchestras, rock bands and commercial television. And an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
