I worked within the agricultural merchanting industry from leaving school in 1969 through to 1997. Various roles included the roles of National Fertiliser Manager and Agricultural Agronomist. In 1997 I sold our house and moved with my wife to the Cayman Islands for 3 years having turned my hobby of being a sports diver into a profession. I therefore bought a boat and a business and spent the next 3 years teaching tourists to the island to dive and visiting the most exciting dive sites in the world. We were joined on the island by my daughter Tracey and her husband Ivano. They had both been working for many years on board the Princess Cruise Lines as hairdresser and chef respectively.
When I returned to the UK in 2000, we look to set up a business which would provide our son-in-law with a restaurant in which he could impart his unique culinary skills to the people of Lincoln and we therefore bought a property on Burton Road which now operates under the name of The Old Bakery.
Since this property also provides accommodation, we were visited by a number of musicians which inspired me to set up Old Bakery Promotions as a business and actively encourage the best musicians in the country to perform in Lincoln which is something that we have successfully achieved over the past 5 years. Various venues have included Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Drill Hall, the Theatre Royal and Lincoln College Theatre.
The accommodation aspect of the business has also enabled to meet a variety of extremely interesting personalities including Sir David Frost, Jonathan Dimbleby, Ron Howard, Sir Ian McKellen, Anita Harris, Ray Mears and many others.
