On Thursday 11th February a group of us from Siren FM and the Lincoln School of Journalism travelled up to the University of Teeside in Middlesborough for the BBC Connect and Create conference. The event was an opportunity for students, academics and BBC employees to find out more about the BBC North project and how it will benefit the North East.
We listened to talks from Peter Salmon, Director of BBC North, and Mark Thompson, BBC Director General, as they outlined the vision of the big project in Salford. How it will benefit the radio industry in the North East remained unclear.
More importantly the event is rounded off with the presentation of the BBC Partnership Awards. This years awards were presented by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, preceded by a very entertaining Question and Answer session with the comedians. Siren FM were nominated for the Achievement award, student newspaper The Linc were nominated in the Innovation category and LSJ graduate Dane Vincent was nominated in the Journalism category for his piece ‘All Bonged Up’.
