Festive fun on Food for Thought

Written by on 21st December 2012

Christmas is almost here and hopefully after last week’s show you are calm and relaxed about what to cook on the day. However, there is always more food to talk about at this time of year. If you want to listen to this week’s show in full then start listening below.

While the annual Christmas Market was happening, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life held a Victorian Christmas. A lot of our traditions come from the Victorians but I wanted to find out what they would eat on the big day so I chatted to Theresa Workman about it. Also to give some context to what a Victorian Christmas was like Siren FM’s Managing Editor Andrew David reads a passage from Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’.

In the run up to Christmas Day it would be poor form to just eat chocolate in preparation so there are a variety of Christmas sandwiches available. In order to find out which are the best and which ones to avoid Adam Best came up with the Christmas Sandwich Index and reviews them on his blog. You can also watch all of Adam’s and The Poke’s Christmas sandwich reviews here. In our chat he started by telling me how the reviews started.

And finally, do you have a vegetarian or a vegan coming over for Christmas dinner? Well there is no need to worry as I spoke to Karin Ridgers from Veggie Vision TV to get some tips, recipes and words of advice to make sure everyone is happy and fed at the dinner table. There might even be some recipes to convince meat eaters to try out something different.

That’s everything Food for Thought has this Christmas – so that just leaves me to say Merry Christmas! There will be a few best-ofs over the holiday so make sure you listen in. Also if there are cafes, restaurants or interesting foodie people who you think should be on the show then just tweet or email me.
